Stories

Storytelling is essential to our shared humanity. Here are my stories.

“Moments in Between”, “Deaf Gain in Travel”

Article. March 2022, May 2022.

I wrote two pieces on my pre-COVID experiences traveling as a d/Deaf Chinese American woman based on the themes of simple pleasures and language, respectively. Here’s one excerpt:

For some people, traveling is about hitting up all of the tourist attractions and enjoying the regional cuisines that please their palates with new scents and tastes. For others, traveling is a means to an end—visiting family or friends, for business meetings, or to present a research poster at a conference. For me, it’s all of the above.

And yet, it’s the small moments in between destinations that contribute to the allure of travel for me.

I contributed to this student-run travel magazine because I wanted to exercise my reflective writing skills and I wanted to publish an article in a magazine at least once before I graduated. You can purchase the magazine for $12—$14 on Etsy.
